What makes Edison dryer vent runs different?

Edison was Raritan Township until November 10, 1954, when it took the name of the inventor whose main laboratory sat in the Menlo Park section. It now covers a little over thirty square miles split into sections including Bonhamtown, Clara Barton, Menlo Park, New Dover, Nixon, North Edison, Oak Tree, Sand Hills and Stelton.

The 2010 census counted 36,302 housing units here, and by 2020 Edison was the sixth-most-populous municipality in New Jersey at 107,588 people. That is a lot of very different heating systems inside one township line.

Edison is a transport hub. Turnpike Exit 10 sits in the township with a 13-lane toll gate, Interstate 287 ends here where it meets Interstate 95, and Route 27, Route 440 and US Route 1 all cross the township.

Background on Edison from Wikipedia

What You Get

What a dryer vent cleaning in Edison actually covers

The lint that matters is not the lint in the trap. It is the packed layer sitting in the duct between the back of your dryer and the exterior cap, and in an Edison house that run can be short and straight or it can climb through a wall and across a ceiling before it finds daylight. We clear the whole run, both ends, and we check the exterior termination actually opens.

We pull the dryer out and clean behind it, because that is where the lint that escaped the connection collects, and in most Edison laundry rooms nobody has moved that machine in years. If the transition hose is crushed, kinked or the wrong material, you get told, and you get told what it costs before anything is replaced.

Then we check that the machine is actually venting. A Edison dryer that takes three cycles to dry a load is usually not a broken dryer. It is a blocked run, and that is a much cheaper problem.

On The Ground

What goes wrong with dryer vents in Edison homes?

Every town hands this trade a different problem. These are the five that come up on Edison jobs, written from what the van actually finds rather than from a brochure.

Townhouse runs in North Edison

Newer North Edison townhouses and condos tend to run the vent horizontally through a shared wall before it finds an exterior face. Long, hidden, and shared with a neighbour's construction. Those runs hold more lint than anybody expects and they are the ones we get called back to most.

Dryers that moved and vents that did not

In postwar Stelton, Clara Barton and Bonhamtown houses the laundry has often been relocated from where the original builder put it, with a longer flexible hose bridging the gap. That hose is where the lint sits. We show you the run before we quote the work.

Renovation debris in the vent line

Edison renovates constantly, and a laundry room that gets opened up while the dryer is still in use ends up with drywall dust bonded to the lint inside the duct. That mix does not shake loose the way plain lint does, and it is one of the most common things we pull out of an Edison line.

Commercial and storefront laundry off Route 27

The small commercial units along the Oak Tree Road and Route 27 corridor often vent through a roof rather than a wall, on runs that were installed once and never revisited. Those get treated as commercial jobs with the building walked first.

Long vertical runs in the deeper Edison basements

Because the Perth Amboy Moraine arcs across Edison, plenty of houses here sit on higher ground with a deep basement under them. A basement dryer then has a real climb to daylight, and a climb with a bend in it collects lint at the bend every single time.

Read Your System

How do I know a dryer vent in Edison needs clearing?

Nobody in Edison needs this done every year. You need it when the system tells you, and these are the signals worth calling about.

  • Clothes come out damp after a full cycle, or need a second run.
  • The laundry room gets hot and humid while the dryer is going.
  • The exterior flap does not open, or barely moves, when the dryer runs.
  • You can see lint around the outside cap or behind the machine.
  • It has been years, or you moved in and nobody can tell you when it was last done.

Getting There

How do you get to Edison from Perth Amboy?

People give us directions by road and by landmark, not by address, so here is the same set of roads we use. Edison is a transport hub. Turnpike Exit 10 sits in the township with a 13-lane toll gate, Interstate 287 ends here where it meets Interstate 95, and Route 27, Route 440 and US Route 1 all cross the township.

Route 440 out of Perth Amboy

Route 440 runs through Perth Amboy and through Edison, so that is the straightforward surface route from our base and the one the van takes most days.

Turnpike Exit 10

Exit 10 is in Edison and it is the interchange where Interstate 287 ends at the Turnpike. The toll gate is 13 lanes wide. If you are describing your street off the Turnpike, that is the one.

US Route 1 and Menlo Park Mall

The mall opened on US Route 1 in 1959 and it is still the landmark most Edison customers give us. Roosevelt Park, 196 acres, sits right next to it.

Route 27 and Oak Tree Road

Oak Tree Road runs about a mile and a half through Edison and into Iselin along Route 27. Most of our Edison commercial calls come off that strip or off Route 27 nearby.

Raritan Center

The Edison business park on the river side of the township is the largest industrial park on the east side of the Mississippi. Commercial callers usually place themselves off it or off the convention center inside it.

Hero Air Duct Cleaning service van

Hero is a service business. The van comes to you in Edison; there is no shop here to visit.

Questions

Edison dryer vent cleaning FAQ

Which parts of Edison do you cover for dryer vents?

All of the township, from North Edison down through Stelton, Bonhamtown, Clara Barton, Nixon, Menlo Park, Oak Tree, New Dover and Sand Hills. Edison is one of the closest towns to our Perth Amboy base.

Do I need a permit for dryer vent work in Edison?

Not for a cleaning. If the job becomes a replacement line or a new exterior termination, that is a construction question and Edison Township Code Enforcement is the office to ask. We say which one your job is before any work starts, not after.

I am in a North Edison townhouse with a long run. Can you still clear it?

Yes. Long horizontal runs through shared walls are the standard North Edison job for us. We clear from both ends and check the exterior flap actually opens with the machine running.

Can you price an Edison dryer vent over the phone?

No, and be careful with anyone who will. Edison runs go from a straight wall vent in a postwar ranch to a three-elbow climb in a newer townhouse. We look, then we price, and the price does not move after that.
